The Y Refuge exists to impact the lives of family, youth and adults through the use of God’s
creation, relationships, academics and adventure experiences; focusing on seeking answers to honest questions while
partnering with groups to point people towards Christ as the best hope and most proven worldview.
What We Believe
TYR officers and staff agree with the statement of faith found in the Lausanne Covenant; a
statement affirmed by evangelicals from more than 150 countries around the world. In addition to these core beliefs, we emphasize the following three
premises as part of our core ministry philosophy.
Core Values
We Believe
God has given humanity certain tools to be used to find Him and point others towards His Truth. The first and most
important are the Holy Scriptures. Second is the gift of his creation. This world declares the glory of God (Psalm 19) and
through introducing people to that creation we believe we will be introducing people to God’s character. Through a
greater knowledge of God’s character, people are drawn towards a deeper relationship with Him.
We Believe
God has also left us His Holy Spirit to convict us of sin, show us God’s purpose for our lives, teach us, and help us. This
voice of the Spirit often goes unheard because of the fast-paced lives we live and the constant noise we are bombarded
with. We believe that the Spirit is more clearly heard when distractions are stripped away and we quiet ourselves enough
to listen. TYR creates an atmosphere that draws people out of their hectic lives and into a quiet that is conducive to
listening.
We Believe
God has placed humanity in community with each other. Through relationships we are taught,
encouraged, and held accountable. TYR recognizes this as a powerful truth and has created a place where those
relationships can be developed and grown. Our ministry seeks to provide students and adults with the space, both
physically and emotionally, that those relationships need in order to blossom and grow.
These three truths form the core of who we are as a ministry.
When a community of people who desire to know God or
are passionate about pursuing Him are pulled out of their normal environments and given an opportunity to undistractedly
reflect on God in His creation, life changing decisions take place both in their lives and the lives of people around them.
